Every finance officer must therefore have to be finance-savvy, know how to justify a request and quantify his contributions to the organization.   This workshop offers exactly what you need to further your career, improve on your accounts and finance skills.

Learning objectives:

• have a better understanding of the Accounting Process;
• apply key finance terms in relations to IFRS;
• explain the need for an organization to have a good cash flow system in place;
• appraise capital projects; and
• read and interpret annual report and accounts better.

Course outline:

Day 1: Understanding Basic Accounting Principles

• The accounting processes
• Applying accounting conventions and guidelines
• Key finance terms: assets, liabilities, capital, depreciation, current ratio and others

Day 2: Financial statements and their significance

• Financing the business (Debt vs. equity financing)
• Content and format of the annual report and the auditor’s role

Day 3: Using profit-planning tools, break-even

analysis, financial forecasting

• Cash flow: where cash comes from and

how it’s applied.

• Analyzing payback method,
• Discounted cash flow, and
• Present value index in making profitable

capital investment decisions.

Methodology: Lectures, discussions, exercises, case studies, audio-visual aids will be used to reinforce these teaching/learning methods.
