Diesel Engine Systems: Electronics Operation &Troubleshooting

Program Overview

This course introduces the student to Heavy Equipment (Construction, Earth Moving, Quarry, Power Generation and Material Handling Equipment Engine Applications) basic Electronics diesel engine theory and principles. The principles of Inputs and Output Devices and Controls are taught and variations in design are discussed. Basic Engine Troubleshooting Techniques overview is vividly discussed.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

• list the basic components of an engine control system of a caterpillar electronic engine and describe their functions;
• describe the interaction among the basic components of the caterpillar electronic engine control System;
• explain the function and operation of the electronic modular control Panel (EMCP);
• identify the various buttons of the EMCP and list their functions;
• explain the basic structure of a diesel engine and its operating principles;
• list the Fuel System components and describe their functions;
• describe the operating principles of the fuel system;
• list the air intake and exhaust system components and describe their functions;
• describe the operating principles of the air intake and exhaust System;
• list the lubrication System components and describe their functions;
• describe the operating principles of the lubrication System;
• list the cooling system components and describe their functions;
• describe the principles of operation of the cooling system; and
• prepare equipment for preventive maintenance under normal procedures and steps.
